Australian team for players with an intellectual disability announced

 

The Australian Cricket Team for Players with an Intellectual Disability has been selected for the INAS Tri Series to be held in Kimberley, South Africa 14-27 November 2011.

 

The team to be coached by Cricket Victoria’s Bruce Nunn and assisted by Queensland Cricket’s Nev Paulsen, both Cricket Australia level three coaches, will look to keep the Australian Team’s successful record having won all Tri Series to date (2005, 2007 and 2009).

 

The team will include three debutants Steve Teloniatis, David Searle and Michael Massarotti who will look to impress along with experienced players Rex Breed, David Baird and Gavin Hicks who was the stand out performer in the 2009 Tri Series scoring 100 on the MCG.

The Australian Team will play a series of 40 over matches against traditional rivals England and home country South Africa in what will be a hard fought series.

 

The Australian Team is supported through strong partnerships between Cricket Australia, AUSRAPID and The Lord’s Taverners Australia.

 

Head of Delegation and Cricket Australia’s Diversity Manager Juhi McInerney noted: “Cricket Australia is proud of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) relationships with The Lord’s Taverners and AUSRAPID. These partnerships allow the Australian Team to compete at the highest level and have done so successfully for many years”.

 

The Lord’s Taverners Australia provide vital funding for the areas of disability and disadvantaged and their support of the upcoming Tri Series has been tremendous.
